Jerry Work builds custom fine furniture in the old 1907 Masonic Hall in historic Kerby, Oregon. After spending four years exploring the country in a motor home after semi-retiring, Jerry and his wife Sharon were looking for an old building that needed some TLC. In 2001, the Work’s moved into the Masonic Hall after making the upstairs livable and creating an downstairs shop filled with state-of-the-art woodworking equipment.

Work soon joined the Siskiyou Woodcraft Guild. He’s also creating a new guild for professional artisans of all types, the Southern Oregon Guild, to help artists and craftspeople in all media learn to be more successful in the business of art. Learn more about the SOG here.

“Because I worked with my head all my life, I worked with my hands to keep my sanity,” says Work, a long-time woodworker who’s retired from the computer software business.

“Precise joinery is the hallmark of my furniture,” Work says. Rarely is any metal used in his pieces, except for the occasional knob or hinge.

Jerry isn’t just passionate about building the furniture. He’s just as passionate that people take it home and live with it and appreciate it. “It’s not art furniture. It’s furniture to be used.”
